The requirements for the legalization of public documents from Bangladesh are not met until further notice. For this reason, legalization has been discontinued with the approval of the Federal Foreign Office.

It is possible to verify the authenticity and accuracy of documents if a German authority deems this necessary.

In such cases, the domestic authority can submit a request for administrative assistance to the Embassy. Requests from private individuals cannot be processed.

Verification of a marriage:

• Passport copies of the spouses

• Photos of the spouses including pictures of the wedding

• detailed directions incl. sketches ((former) Residence of the spouses, Kazi Office etc.)

• Birth Certificates of the Spouses

• Marriage Documents:

  • Muslim Marriages: Nika Nama in Bangla and English

  • Hindu Marriages: Marriage Certificate + certificate of the Temple

  • Christian Marriages: Certificate of the Priest / Church + Marriage Certificate

  • Buddhist Marriages: Certificate of the Monk + Affidavit about the solemnization

  • Marriages according to the Special Marriages Act: Marriage Certificate from The Special Registrar

• If applicable:

  • Marriage documents for previous marriages

  • Death Certificate of late spouses

  • Divorce documents:

    • Muslim Marriages: Divorce Certificate, Divorce Notice and Confirmation of the receipt of the divorce notice with the responsible authority

    • Christian Marriages: Divorce Certificate

    • Marriages according to the Special Marriages Act: Divorce Certificate

Verification of Marital Status:

• Passport copie of the applicant

• Photos of the applicant

• Birth Certificates of the applicant

• Marital Status Certificate

• If applicable:

  • Marriage documents for previous marriages

  • Death Certificate of late spouses

  • Divorce documents for previous marriages

Verification of Parental lineage:

• Passport copies of the parents and children

• Photos of the parents and children including pictures of the wedding of the parents

• detailed directions incl. sketches ((former) Residence of the spouses, Kazi Office etc.)

• Birth Certificates of the children and spouses

• Marriage Documents of the parents see above

• If applicable:

  • Marriage documents for previous marriages of the parents

  • Death Certificate of late spouses of the parents

  • Divorce documents see above of the parents

Verification of Identity

• Photos of the applicant
