Information for Visa Applicants for Family Reunion

Foreigners who intend to join a family member residing in Germany may receive an entry visa valid up to 90 days that can be transferred into a residence permit by German Immigration Authorities after taking residence with the family member.
An application may only be filed at the German Embassy Dhaka under the provision that the applicant has a permanent residence in the area of jurisdiction of this Embassy.

Processing Time

The minimum time to process the application for a visa for family reunion takes approx. 4 months, since your application has to be forwarded to the competent immigration authorities in Germany for final approval.
Please be aware that in most cases document verification is requested. The process of verification takes between eight and ten weeks.

Application

Please note that visa applicants for a Family Reunion Visa have to register for an appointment prior to submitting their application via our website
Admission to the Visa Section of the German Embassy will only be granted at the time of the scheduled appointment. Being late for more than 15 minutes will consequently result in scheduling a new appointment.
The visa application must be supported by all the necessary documents as only applications with complete documentation can be accepted.

Fees

Visa fee: 75.00 Euro (equivalent in BDT), for children - aged between 0-17: 37.50 Euro (equivalent in BDT). The verification fee of the document is 28,000/- BDT.
The complete fee has to be paid upon application and cannot be refunded in case the visa application is rejected.

Checklist

Please prepare your applications with the below-mentioned documents as well as one additional copy of the marriage and the birth certificate. The original documents have to be provided as well.

Please prepare the documents in the following order:

☐ Valid passport (with a validity of at least 12 months)

☐ 1 recent biometrical passport photograph (not older than six months)

☐ Visa application form (please make sure that both forms are filled out and signed mentioning especially the address of your future residence in Germany (question 15) as well as your complete home address which includes telephone number and e-mail address in Bangladesh). Visa application form

☐ Signed Declaration on True and Complete Information

☐ Birth certificate of the applicant on Govt. Form-3 or Form-3A, (Birth certificate accompanying children, if applicable)

☐ Marriage certificate (for all confessions) / Nikah Nama (for Muslims) in Bengali and English with address of the Kazi office (A4 size copy). Original and three sets of photocopies

☐ Certificate of German proficiency on an A1 Level and for the accompanying minor child/children age of 16-18 on a C1 level according to the CEFR (for applicants exempted from this requirement, please refer to the separate information sheet on the website).

☐ Copy of your passport’s data page (A4 size copy)

☐ Registration certificate of your spouse living in Germany (“Meldebescheinigung”)

☐ Copy of your spouse’s valid German Residence permit

☐ Copy of data page of your relative’s present valid passport (A4 size copy)

☐ Photocopy of all pages (even empty ones) of your relative’s passport which was valid during the date of marriage

☐ Individual Sketch maps* for the following addresses: One set

1. Sketch map of your present address
2. Sketch map of your permanent address
3. Sketch map of your spouse’s address in Bangladesh
4. Sketch map of the Kazi Office where the marriage is registered

You are kindly requested to submit pictures of your house and roads in order to find the location of your house. Please submit as well photos of you and your spouse as well as pictures from your wedding.

*How to draw the sketch maps:

On the top of the paper, please write e.g. ‘Present Address of applicant‘. Please mention your complete address. Additionally, please describe how to reach your home address from Dhaka (either in Bangla or English). Finally, please draw a road map and provide information on the means of transportation to reach your home (e.g. by bus, car, CNG)

Furthermore to be submitted (if applicable):

☐ Affidavit before a notary public regarding a change of name

☐ Marriage and divorce documentation of earlier marriages (or death certificates)

☐ For Muslims divorced in Bangladesh: Divorce notice and receipt confirmation of the local council and extract from the Marriage and Divorce register

☐ Proof of legal custody for children from any previous marriage

Applications for minor children:

In case the father is not able to appear in person at the Embassy in order to sign the application of his minor child, a Power of Attorney from him will be necessary.
The Power of Attorney has to be notarised by a Public Notary or any competent Authority in Germany. The original of this Power of Attorney has to be submitted together with the Visa application for the minor child.

Please note that the German Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents or an additional interview.

Submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa is granted.

Missing documents may be handed in after the application has been filed with the Embassy. They are to be sent by post or handed in in person at the Embassy’s gate. The five-digit file number of the application must be indicated on the envelope.
All photocopies must be fully legible and will be refused in case they are not.

It is expected that an applicant is reachable through the cell phone number and email address provided on the application form.

Failure to produce any of the documents above or further documents required within a set period of time is likely to lead to refusal of the application. Deadlines set may be extended after consultation with the officer in charge.
