Information for Visa Applicants for Intended Marriage / Establishment of a Civil Union in Germany

A visa for an intended marriage or an establishment of a civil union in Germany may only be applied for, if a certificate of marriageability (“Anmeldung zur Eheschließung / Eintragung einer Lebenspartnerschaft”) issued by the competent German Civil Registrar has been issued stating that a date for the intended marriage / establishment of a civil union has been scheduled.

It is therefore vital to check with the competent German Registrar’s Office in the town you want to get married which documents have to be submitted in Germany in order to obtain the above-mentioned certificate.

Fees:

Visa fees are payable in Bangladeshi Taka. The fees are fixed in Euro (please refer to separate information page); therefore, the equivalent in Bangladeshi currency may vary according to the exchange rate. The complete fee has to be paid upon application and will not be refunded in case the visa application is rejected.

Processing Time:

The minimum time to process the application for a visa for family reunion takes approximately four to five months, since document verification is necessary in most cases and your application has to be forwarded to the competent immigration authorities in Germany for final approval.

Checklist:

Before submitting your application at the Embassy, please prepare the documentation in the following order:

☐ Valid passport with a validity of at least one more year and at least two (2) empty pages

☐ 3 recent biometrical passport photographs (not older than six months)

☐ Visa application form for a German National Visa; all questions have to be answered, incomplete forms cannot be accepted

☐ Declaration on True and Complete Information

☐ Copy of all pages of your passport (A4 size copy)

☐ Citizenship Certificate

☐ Copy of all pages of your fiancé/e’s passport (A4 size copy)

☐ Copy of fiancé/e’s residence permit for Germany – if applicable

☐ “Verpflichtungserklärung” by German sponsor

☐ Personal covering letter explaining the exact purpose and duration of stay

☐ Certificate of residence (“Meldebescheinigung”) of the financé/e living in Germany (not older than 6 months)

☐ Proof of German knowledge (A1 level)

Please note that – under certain circumstances – there are exemptions from this requirement. For further information please refer to “Information on German language requirements”

☐ Certificate of intended marriage / establishment of civil union (“Anmeldung zur Eheschließung / Eintragung einer Lebenspartnerschaft”) issued by German Civil Registrar (not older than 6 months)

☐ Copy of all documents submitted to the German Civil Registrar in order to obtain the certificate of intended marriage / establishment of civil union

☐ Health Insurance (valid until the time of marriage)

☐ Visa Fee (please see website regarding fees)

Important Information:

Please prepare two identical sets of application of the above-mentioned documents and bring your original documents along:

- all documents have to be presented in the given order in original

- copies in Format “DIN A4”.

- all documents in Bangla language have to be supported by an English or German translation.

Only applications with complete documentation can be accepted.

Please note that the German Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents or an additional interview.

In case of visa approval, you will be requested to present a travel health insurance (please refer to the website regarding accepted travel health insurances).

Submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa is granted.

Submission of incomplete documentation may result in the rejection of your application.
