General Information

Bangladeshi nationals, living in the jurisdiction of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and intending to travel to: Germany and Estonia for tourist or business (including trade fairs) purposes as well as the purpose of visiting friends and family members may apply for a Schengen Visa (Category C).
A Schengen Visa entitles the holder to an accumulated stay of up to 90 days within a period of six months and is valid for Germany, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland (Schengen Member States).
Should you however only be transiting through the Schengen area, you may apply for an Airport Transit Visa (Category A). This visa allows a short stop-over at an international airport only. Neither leaving the airport’s international transit area nor overnight stays in a hotel is possible. If you need to leave the international transit area (i.e. in order to catch a connecting flight at another airport to leave the Schengen area), please apply for a regular Schengen visa.
Information for Non-Bangladeshi applicants who have valid residence status/permit in Bangladesh:
An application can only be filed in case you have a valid Bangladeshi Residence Permit with at least three months validity after the date of departure from the territory of the Member States.

Important information:
Please do not send the Visa Section any documents unless requested to do so, particularly not before you have applied for a visa. We are not able to store such documents and will not know to which application they belong. Please always bring all the necessary documents with you to your appointment.

What happens during processing your visa?

The Visa Department will examine your visa application including the supporting documents and will assess whether your application meets the legal requirements.
Applications have to be lodged at least 15 days prior to the intended date of travel.
If necessary, the Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents.
Please do understand, that queries regarding the status of your application cannot be entertained during the regular processing time.
In cases, where the Visa Department is unable to take a final decision on your application within the given time frame, i.e. because of missing information, you will be informed accordingly.

Return of your passport

If you are not able to collect your passport yourself, you may authorise a third person to collect your passport by providing him with a “Power of Attorney” (Letter of Authorisation).
This power of attorney has to mention your name, date of birth and passport number as well as personal details (name and date of birth and ID number) of the person collecting your passport. The authorized person collecting is required to present the original ID mentioned in the power of attorney.
In case the Embassy was not able to take a favourable decision on your visa application, you will be handed over a “Refusal Letter” mentioning the reasons why the visa couldn’t be granted.

Have a good trip!

Additional Information

If all the information on your visa label is correct, you are free to travel. Please check the information on the label as soon as your passport is returned to you. You should let us know immediately if there are any mistakes so that we can issue you a new visa.

Your visa will state your full name and passport number and include your photo. It will also state the period of validity. This is the time period in which you can travel. In addition, it will state the maximum number of days you can stay in the Schengen area during the period of validity of your visa. Our aim is to give you a certain amount of flexibility in planning your trip. In order to allow you to change your travel dates at short notice, visas are usually valid for 15 days longer than the maximum number of days you are allowed to stay in the Schengen area.
Please note that being granted a Schengen visa does not guarantee that you will be allowed to enter the Schengen area. The final decision on whether or not you will be allowed to enter the Schengen area will be made by the border police on your arrival. When you arrive, the border police may ask you to present additional documentation alongside your passport and valid visa with information on your financial means, the length and purpose of your stay, and your health insurance cover. You should therefore take a copy of your visa documents (including an invitation from Germany, hotel reservation and travel health insurance) with you on your trip.

We will follow up on your complaint once it has been received.
